refers to scholarly publications of a digital nature whose
electronic form is inherent to the scholarship itself.
This is in contrast to conventional scholarly publishing
whose electronic form merely enhances its accessibility.
Examples of "Born Digital" scholarship include
Hypertext-dependent scholarship (websites)
Databases and data sets
Electronic editions (with scholarly apparatus
or metadata) of primary texts and digital objects.
Scholarship within emerging digital forms suffers from
a lack of recognition due to its form and the absence of
established standards for assessing non-print (or print-modeled)
forms of scholarly communication.
